While my Crown of Sparrows 12" Vinyl arrives to Madrid, I'm waiting listening this amazing work full of sensibilities. From the first chords of Crown of Sparrows to the final track Drowned men (Prom it's an amazing tune) pure musical poetry in my veins.
Thanks, Mr. Parker.
Best wishes to you from Madrid, Spain.

Fast birds through the treeline slow light through the pines oh Queeny come on in the water’s fine the water’s fine Soon we’ll fly away this crown of sparrows was never going to stay Soon we’ll wake from dreaming with every sweet thing flown away hey hon how late is it? hey could it really be that they’re closing the bars? but oh don’t it seem endless out here & all ours, all ours Soon we’ll fly away this crown of sparrows was never going to stay Soon we’ll wake from dreaming with every sweet thing flown away Soon we’ll fly away this crown of sparrows was never going to stay

Gaudy Frame 04:43
How could you miss me Sitting here with this pale girl & my clear-as-gin halo Don’t you know my whole drunken world Is a gaudy frame For a picture-perfect girl How could I miss you passing by with those bright girls & boys How could I miss you passing by in that golden horde How could I miss you sitting there with that pale bright boy Looking like there’s no tomorrow Don’t you know, don’t you know My whole drunken world Is a gaudy frame For a picture-perfect girl My whole drunken world Is a gaudy frame For a picture-perfect girl, girl for a picture-perfect girl.

Night Market 04:46
Such bright aisles they have at the night market. They show no shadows when yr eyes are down. The night time is the right time for this kind of shopping: evening’s unseeing & seems kind. So off we float, thin & pretty as lost kites. Off to bargain badly for our lost nights. But where’s the fault? We can’t be blamed The costs were marked, though, just the same. But who’s inclined to read those sorts of signs? There’s so little time & so much to buy.
4.
Prom 04:51
Frankie dear it’s almost here It won’t be long til prom Frankie baby the stars all light the car’s already been and gone to prom And all along the long lawn the stars are falling the stars are down it’s all wrong it’s all wrong but come on down & lie to your poor mom it’s prom Frankie darling the band’s gone quiet Strange how the light is bent and drawn into prom All along the long lawn the stars are falling the stars are down it’s all wrong it’s all wrong but come on down & lie to your poor mom it’s prom it’s prom it’s prom

Oh Cousin 07:30
The sky is just like you tonight too high & way too bright & probably hiding something There's fires in the dancehalls & knives made of neon that tower high & are not comforting oh cousin these nights are a danger to all but oh cousin I'm eighteen stories tall oh please cousin tell me, tell me just what are we? that we're not sorry, sorry, sorry we're not sorry It's true the fall will come soon and all the days die young, the days die young but the long nights are still warm & there's always still more ways to come, to come undone oh cousin these nights are a danger to all but oh cousin I'm eighteen stories tall oh please cousin tell me, tell me just what are we? that we're not sorry, sorry, sorry we're not sorry
6.
Drowned Men 04:38
Not one thing can hurt the drowned men. We're free, and float like seaweed in green twilight. Out on the weekend The town lights are sweet then & dear if it's true that you can't swim then you can drown too So don't hold your breath dear When we dive, dive, dive It's only death dear Til we rise, rise, rise It's only death dear til we rise.

about

Monk Parker Austin, Texas

Pitchfork says "Mournful & elegant, big & brassy... the exquisite dejection is almost celebratory", Rolling Stone France calls his most recent release “perfect, just perfect”, and El Pais declared a recent Madrid performance "monstrously sad & brilliantly anachronistic”.

The new full-length solo release "Crown of Sparrows" comes out on LP & CD in April 2016 on Grand Jury Records.
